The Demowfloat project, supported by FP7 of the European Commission, gathers 12 entities of 5 different countries who aim to test and monitor the performance of a offshore wind integrated system, named WindFloat®.
WindFloat® enables harnessing wind power at sea in deep water (depths greater than 40 m) for conversion to clean renewable electrical energy.
This prototype project is located 6 km offshore Póvoa de Varzim (Portugal), at a depth of about 42 m. The closest villages are Aguçadoura and Apúlia.

WindFloat 2014 review - In 2014 the WindFloat prototype (WF1) - our first installation in Portugal - reached another milestone, it passed the 10GWh mark and has now delivered 12.02GWh of renewable electricity to the grid. At the Diana Bar, Póvoa de Varzim, diverse information about the Demowfloat project and the WindFloat® technology is now available. The exhibition will be open to the public for free until July 2015.
